The Undergraduate Awards (UA) is seeking an individual to fill the role of Awards Standards Manager. This person will oversee all awarding standards and criteria which relate to identifying winners and highly commended undergraduate students for UA. The role will be concerned with maintaining and improving the submission standards, the quality and international diversity of judges as well as the relevance and value of material and content at the annual UA Global Summit.
The Undergraduate Awards
The Undergraduate Awards was established in 2008 as a not for profit organisation with the objective of identifying exceptional undergraduate students from all over the globe. UA is now the world’s largest undergraduate awarding programme. In 2017 UA received just 6,500 submissions from 299 universities across 48 countries. The mission is to identify exceptional undergraduate students from 25 different disciplines across the globe. The objective is to then create an environment at the UA Global Summit where these students can connect across disciplines on issues of global consequences. The significant tag line which directs all purpose is to ensure students attending then; ‘know your worth, know your responsibility’.
UA invites final or penultimate year undergraduate students to submit a piece of their work which has already been graded an ‘A’ or equivalent in their institution. They choose one of 25 different categories and submit online with a short abstract. The process is free and very simply done. Work submitted must be removed of all means of identification of individual student and institution.
- Manage the Judging Process of The Undergraduate Awards.
- Safeguarding all standards of assessment and assessment criteria in selecting Global winners and Highly Commended Entrants.
- Manage the core content/themes of the annual UA Global Summit around issues of global significance.
- Oversee the growth in quality of submissions ensuring representation at the UA Summit from a growing number of countries.
Manage the Judging Process
- Overall management of the Judging Process.
- Recruitment of senior international academics to participate as judges ensuring wide representation geographically and within 25 categories.
- Select judging chairs across disciplines and brief them fully on their role through the judging process.
- Guide the Judges through the four -stage judging process.
- Reviewing and assessing the judging process by stages, grading systems and online platforms.
- Ensuring a fair and rigorous method is followed to select winning and highly commended papers.
- Co-ordinating data and collecting results to identify Winners and Highly Commended students.
- Overseeing the screening process; investigating the eligibility of students’ work against selection criteria when issues arise.
- Articulating the role of the judge in benchmarking undergraduate work globally and identifying exceptional students with passion and creativity.
- Maintain the database of judges and judging chairs
Safeguarding all standards of assessment and assessment criteria
- Managing the biannual Academic Advisory Board meetings to include setting agenda, presenting reports and managing all correspondence.
- Reviewing and assessing the submission criteria and assessment standards across all categories in UA in line with recommendations made by the Academic Advisory Board.
- Implement and uphold the appropriate awarding standards across all activities, processes, projects, and communication within UA.
Manage the core content/themes of the annual UA Global Summit.
- Responsible for the delivery of appropriate content at the UA Global Summit in line with themes around student submissions and issues of global society.
- Oversight on key note speakers and contributors at the UA Global Summit with specific regard to the judging panels and the Alumni network.
- Keep informed and of important issues pertaining to undergraduate education.
Oversee the growth in quality of submissions
- Ensure accuracy of all material in communicating with third level institutions globally on the student submission process.
- Grow submissions from a widening geographic range by identifying institutions through working with the Development Executive and develop material to encourage submissions and judges where appropriate.
- Develop a database of undergraduate education systems from across the globe to inform on structures of undergraduate degrees, academic calendars and grading schemes.
- Ensure all information on the process and criteria around submissions in the UA programme are accurately presented throughout all UA communication material.
- Manage relationships in the Undergraduate Awards network including Judges, the Academic Advisory Board, Deans of Undergraduate Research and where appropriate Heads of Departments.
- Manage the quality and promotion of winning papers on platforms such as The Undergraduate Library.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Ideally Masters degree or higher
- At least 4 years experience working in the higher education sector.
